That seems to cut against the interpretation offered by by Henrich et al. By the way, it's Segall at al. 1963.
Cheers,
S. Evolution works slowly (though there is reason to think it works faster than we previously thought), and 10,000 years of agriculture doesn't seem long enough for differences to emerge among people in such a basic trait as the visual system.

Also: AFAIK, there is no evidence of genetic differences between populations that are strongly linked to cognition.Anony Mousehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08077107616686254136noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1850379426161011153.post-54769888407523905972010-07-25T21:26:03.613+02:002010-07-25T21:26:03.613+02:00@Vahid: yeah, I know Pinker's work. He once highlighted the point that "when psychologists say "most people" they usually mean most of the two dozen sophomores who filled out a questionnaire for beer money." I wonder if the "beer money" can encourage non-Western subjects to get themselves involved in a research project too. Those two environments probably favour different ways of processing visual information.

I don't know anything about the cultures labeled on the graph so I don't know if my previous statement is supported by the data. Still it would be neat to see how various groups would respond to the test if raised in an environment drastically different than the one their ancestors came from.
AMAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
