Who art in Florida
Amazing be thy name
Thy Million-Dollar Challenge
Will not be done
Give us this day
Empirical evidence
And debunk our irrationality
As we debunk those who make unsubstantiated claims to us
And lead us not into woo woo
But deliver us from credulity
For thine is the rationality
The logic and the reason
Until unequivocal evidence proves otherwise
I’m not so sure this is a good idea. Sceptics will of course see the humour and irony of such a prayer – and, yes, its beauty too – but to the multitude of credulous dupes and the charlatans who mislead them this will merely feed the hackneyed, worn-out and overplayed old postmodern sawhorse that science, reason, evidence and rationality together are the objects of worship constituting just another belief system, as valid as any other. But perhaps I am being overly sensitive.
ReplyDeleteI see what you're saying, but I don't really think it's a problem. It's funny - ironic - and the people who can't see that cannot be "reached" anyway.
