
This week is the American Library Association's
Banned Book Week, an awareness campaign dedicated to opposing censorship. To mark the occasion,
Time magazine has put together a list of some of the
10 most challenged books in history. It's sobering to see how many great books are on that list - indeed, my favorite novel,
Lolita by Vladimir Nobokov, is on the list. Imagine the sheer cultural loss if censorial organizations still had
the power to suppress books.
